Active Flow Control Group
The Osney Active Flow Control Group specialises in active flow control and heat transfer. Led by Marko Bacic, the group’s experts in applied heat transfer, instrumentation techniques, tip clearance control, and applied computational fluid dynamics are focused on two major areas.
The first is the challenge of reproducing and studying, in 3D, the full-scale flow conditions in a large civil aero engine under realistic operating conditions. The second is to develop novel methods of improving the thermal efficiency of gas turbines by actively controlling the leakage of air.
In order to achieve this the group has designed, built and leveraged the Generic Transient Heat Transfer Facility and has refurbished the Oxford Rotor Facility (originally designed by Prof R.W. Ainsworth and Prof T.V. Jones.)
Rolls-Royce plc. are the main sponsor of work within the group.
