Putting Safety First: Fire Safety Training at the OTI
Safety is a priority at the OTI, and on Friday 25 September, colleagues had the opportunity to put fire safety knowledge into practice during an engaging training session.
Principal Investigators and managers, PDRAs and graduate students took part in a comprehensive fire safety course combining practical guidance with real-world examples, impactful videos and the science behind fire and fire prevention. Lively questions and discussion throughout the session reflected the strong engagement from colleagues.
The training concluded outside in the autumn sunshine with a realistic fire drill involving smoke, followed by a practical demonstration with a fire tender and crew from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Reflecting on the day, Prof Peter Ireland said:
βIt was fantastic to see colleagues so engaged with the training. Safety is fundamental to the way we conduct our research at the OTI, and sessions like this are an important part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that everyone can work and carry out their research in a safe and well-prepared environment.β
A big thank you to Caroline, Sarah and everyone involved in organising and delivering such an informative and memorable session β and to all our colleagues who took part.
