Oxford Showcases Hydrogen Propulsion Research at UK–Türkiye Hydrogen Train Dialogue Workshop
Professor Peter Ireland was invited to speak at the UK–Türkiye Hydrogen Train Dialogue Workshop, held on 6 March 2026 at Swansea University about the EPSRC Programme Grant Making Hydrogen Work in Zero Carbon Jet Engines.
The workshop, organised by Dr Zhaoxin Ren of the School of Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, General and Mechanical Engineering at Swansea University, brought together experts researching hydrogen in the UK. Professor Ireland’s talk brought insight from leading research into hydrogen fluid dynamics and combustion for aerospace propulsion — one of the most technically demanding environments in transport.
Commenting on his participation, Professor Ireland said:
“I am delighted to represent our work on hydrogen and its feasibility as a fuel. I am incredibly proud of the progress our team has made — particularly in advancing understanding of hydrogen flame dynamics and operability, combustor stability and control, and material durability in hydrogen environments. It is encouraging to see this work generating strong interest in parallel and adjacent sectors.”
The workshop brought together UK stakeholders and a delegation of 10–15 representatives from TÜBİTAK RUTE, TÜRASAŞ and Istanbul Technical University as part of the Hydrogen UK–TR Hydrogen Rail Programme. The event provided a platform for technical exchange and exploration of collaborative opportunities in hydrogen transport.
Oxford’s participation reflects the growing importance of cross-sector knowledge exchange in accelerating hydrogen deployment. Engagements such as this ensure that insights generated within Making Hydrogen Work in Zero Carbon Jet Engines contribute to broader international dialogue on hydrogen propulsion and support the safe, effective adoption of hydrogen across transport modes.
