Cool Hydrogen? New Advances in Maritime and Aviation
It is an interesting time for hydrogen propulsion. Across both aviation and maritime sectors, there is growing evidence that hydrogen technologies are progressing from research and development towards larger-scale demonstrations and early deployment. Recent developments include the establishment of the Tilbury Hydrogen Hub, showcasing hydrogen-powered solutions for maritime operations and port infrastructure, alongside continued investment in hydrogen combustion technology for aviation by major industry players such as Rolls-Royce and easyJet.
For our programme, these developments are encouraging reminders of the wider momentum building around hydrogen-powered transport. Whilst significant technical, infrastructure and regulatory challenges remain, the articles below highlight how industry is continuing to invest in and test hydrogen solutions across a range of applications. They also reinforce the importance of the research being undertaken within our grant, helping to address the scientific and engineering challenges that will ultimately determine whether hydrogen can become a practical and scalable pathway to net-zero transport.
