On June 14th, some of the Oxford Thermofluids Institute’s very talented engineers Dr. Priyanka Dopade, Niharika Gurram, Gladys Ngetich and Anna Bru Revert organised and took part in an outreach event held at St. John’s College. At this event, year 9 girls from Oxfordshire schools met with women in engineering over high tea. For the year 9 girls, the day began with a range of exciting activities including building and testing the structural foundation of a wind turbine!
They also heard about engineering careers, and their importance for society as well as enjoyed a tour of St John’s College. The event culminated in the lovely Main Hall at St John’s College where Dr. Dhopade kicked off the high tea networking part of the day. She also introduced Prof. Alison Noble who gave a fascinating talk about her journey in the field of engineering.
The year 9 girls sitting either side of me were enthused and inspired by the activities, the talks, and the people they met at this excellent outreach event.
