The Vehicle Aerodynamics Group specializes in both fundamental and applied research related to the aerodynamics of vehicles, from bicycles and road cars to Formula 1 and supersonic land-speed record cars, i.e. BLOODHOUND SSC.
Led by Dr Neil Ashton, the group’s expertise is split between aerodynamic development (using both experimental and CFD methods) and the development of high-fidelity transient computational fluid dynamics approaches (e.g LES and DES-type methods) combined with the latest HPC technology.
The group has also set up the first ever University of Oxford Formula Student racing team, for which many of the aerodynamics team contribute to the goals of this research group.
